Leases for Sale and Rentals
When buying a berth, it is the lease you are purchasing which typically will have 5 years to run in French and Spanish ports and anything up to 50 years in some Italian ones. In France new contracts are now available in some ports which have leases of ‘Garantie d’Usage’. These are similar to the outdated and outgoing ‘Acte d’Ammodiation’ and are far less likely to be traded speculatively as in the past 20 years using the old ‘Acte’s’. The purchase price in some French ports used to appear disproportionate to the port rental rates. However, in the last few years prices have fallen to a much more realistic level.
