The enduring popularity of yachting makes it increasingly difficult to find somewhere to keep your boat in some popular locations. The tax changes in Italy seem likely to further demand since Italian yacht owners, now have to pay  a daily tax in order to keep their boat in Italian waters. When buying a berth; it is the lease you are purchasing which typically has 8 – 12 years to run in French and Spanish ports and anything up to 45 years in some Italian ones. The purchase price in some French ports can seem disproportionate to the port rental rates, but that is because in general the rental berths are simply not available. This is the well known phenomena of supply and demand.
